As much as we love the glittering lights, boozy-egg-nog-fueled cheer and coziness of the holidays, that "Oh God, what am I going to get [insert any person's name here]?" feeling tends to overwhelm us by the time Thanksgiving rolls around. Get ahead of the game with our gift guide for guys.

The Sartorialist

Whatever a guy's style, you won't cramp it with one particularly versatile piece from local outdoor apparel company Triple Aught Design. If you've passed by the Hayes Valley store next to Public Bikes, you probably noticed it's stocked with serious gear. But tucked inside is a piece that every man should own, even if his most outdoorsy excursion is his morning commute: the Praetorian Hoodie. This merino wool sweater is as adaptable to the weather as it is to his style.

The Engineer

via Facebook

Tinkering: this might be the most engineer-y word in the English language. These folks have to understand how things work, and they will take them apart all over the floor if need be. That’s why we recommend, well, any class from the Crucible. In the intro blacksmithing class, for example, he can bend hot steel to create simple tools like forks, knives and hooks. Satisfying, nerdy and totally cool.

The Bookworm

via Facebook

The voracious reader in your circle exists to remind you to put down Facebook and pick up a damn book every now and again. Thank him for all those 10-pound hardcover classics he's given you and encourage him into the digital age with a DODOcase. This Dogpatch-based company crafts custom cases for smartphones, tablets and laptops — all of which are reading devices easier to tote around town than massive tomes. The waxed canvas and felt-lined Durables sleeves protect tech and offer some eye-catching elegance as well. Did we mention that President Obama is a fan? You can even customize the case with whatever fabric, color and text you want.

The Mixologist

Since you're already at Convert to pick up that baking dish, it'll be easy to grab something for the amateur bartender in your life. We'll keep this one simple: Every guy needs a good flask (that he hasn't had since freshman year of college). Misc. Goods' embossed white ceramic flask is so stunning he’ll want to show it off. Plus, the cork cap with leather and brass details is a fun twist on tradition.
