The Oakland renaissance continues with a bar and shop that lives up to any wine sipper's grape expectations. Jonathan Davis and Daniel Schmidt of the just-opened Oakland Yard have the wisdom you want in your neighborhood wine consultants — Davis is an alum of Chez Panisse and Bi-Rite; Schmidt comes from Copian Winery. Now, in an effort to build community, they host two laid-back flight tastings each week, on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. (And if you need a last-minute but thoughtful holiday gift, they've got you.) After you've caught a little buzz, head next door to the mac 'n' cheese haven that is Homeroom for some creamy, carby goodness.
