Pricey boutique hotel restaurants. Ghosts of celebrity chefs and worn-out cooks. We love you, Miami, but your culinary scene can do better. And Brad Kilgore agrees: At Alter, he offers gastronomically inclined plates at modest prices. Nestled in a Wynwood corner, Alter introduces Asian-influenced flavors in perfectly plated dishes that look more like abstract art than your average meal, but are still affordable for the everyday foodie. Our favorites include the pork shumai, with foie gras pho and Serrano ham, and the soft egg, with sea scallop espuma, truffle pearls and Gruyère, a buttery treat served in the shell of a cracked egg. Talking about altering the stakes.
