2009: Curator Rita de Alencar Pinto opens a pop-up in NYC. This is followed by art fairs, fashion shows and a brick-and-mortar on the Lower East Side. 2015: Rita's Vanity Projects opens shop in Miami, and it's nothing like your standard nail salon — unless your manicurist regularly paints miniature cartoons on your polished claws with video art in the background. Expect geomapped, kaleidoscopic, blinged-out nails that last an average of three weeks. (We've even seen some girls walk out with anime on their fingertips.) Follow the salon on Instagram for the weekly special, which offers a signature Vanity Projects design in your choice of colors for $40.
A street mural on your fingertips.
Well-manicured nails are always in season.
