In the kitschy beach movies of the '60s, our golden shores are the setting for frolicking, sunburns, picnics and bathing suits. Having gotten its start not long after those teen flicks reigned, Fiesta Hermosa is officially a California classic. The festival bookends summer, taking place Memorial and Labor Day weekends. Spanning the beach pier and several blocks, the event includes 300 artists, a charity beer and wine garden, and a food court serving up regional cooking and traditional carnival eats. For the kids, there's a 30-foot slide, face painting and games. For music lovers, there's a full lineup of live acts. And for the Annette and Frankie in us, it's bingo and watusi time!

Hang on to the bouffants and the turtle wax, it's summer!
Nothing says Los Angeles summer like dancing on the beach, eating cotton candy and looking for Gidget.
