When a restaurant calls itself The Mess, it invites a certain amount of intrigue about the appetites of its patrons. We went sniffing around to see whether there's merit behind the title and found it appetisingly calamity free. The name is actually derived from a 15th-century term for a group of people dining together. And in that case, it's as befitting a moniker as you'll ever find. The concept is around shared plates, and with items like spicy squid tacos, creamy polenta and vegetable curry, you'll never struggle to find a willing crowd. Especially when you take their dark chocolate lava cake into account. But maybe that's where things start getting messy.

A new culinary addition to De Waterkant Village.
It's not as messy as you think.
