"Can you see the kite?" We were wondering if our scout meant us to be looking out for a bird of prey or an aerial surfer when we saw it: a sign shaped like a kite outside a tavern, with the word Amades on it. Seating ourselves in the eatery's simple interior, our scout whispered something to the server and a flagon of clear yet fiery liquid appeared on our table. It's not listed on the menu here, but raki (over lots of ice) is the perfect accompaniment to their delicious assorted platters of meze. Choose a table inside, ask for raki, and do try the fava – it's smooth, creamy and almost addictive. Kali orexi!
