Typically, the food we enjoy in the midst of dramatic natural surroundings is whatever we've packed for our mid-hike picnic. But in the midst of Kreuzberg is Vertikal, a gastropub engulfed by Germany's largest vertical garden. This wall-climbing urban forest is the backdrop to a kitchen turning out brunches and dinners that celebrate the neighborhood's diversity. You'll find flavors from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, with artful presentations and a penchant for brightly hued vegetables. We're partial to the shakshuka, but you can expect anything from wild salmon in a white chocolate sauce to tempura tofu with carrot salad. For even more color, just look up from your food.

A gastropub celebrating Kreuzberg's culinary diversity.
Year-round greenery to go with your brunch, lunch or dinner.
