Every urban dweller thinks their city becomes the most beautiful place in the world in May; only Berliners know this to be true. This is why we put up with the grayest of gray winters! This is when you take your bike to the streets, drink Rottkäpchen in the park and scoff as many mysterious green ice creams as you can. (They say it's woodruff. To us it just tastes like summer.) So here's a sextet of happenings to help you make hay like the best of 'em.

Schaltkreis Wassermann Concert

This country is overflowing with pioneering electro bands from the ‘80s. But hey, when in Berlin … live out whatever fantasies you had of this city before you ever got here, am I right? Plus, these guys are sick. And you get the chance to check out Neu West Berlin’s new digs down on Yorckstrasse.

Where: Yorckstrasse 86, 10965

When: May 13, 9 p.m.

Libertine Club Opening Party

via Facebook

A new nightclub opening in Berlin is like a ritzy restaurant opening in Paris, or a rooftop pool opening in L.A. I'll quit while I'm ahead, but you get the idea: It’s big bloody news. And especially when it claims to be a place made by clubbers, for clubbers. I’m there already.

Where: Holzmarktstrasse 16, 10179
When: May 13, 11:59 p.m.

Gütermarkt Season Opening

via Facebook

Did you know there’s an island in central Berlin that’s not full of selfie sticks and museums? It’s called Moabit. It’s so un-hipster that it’s actually sorta hipster again. (Those damn mercurial miscreants!) Anyway, there’s a cool flea market taking place on the splendid grounds of the Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik. It’s all about up/down cycling, timebanks and foodscapes. And if those words mean something to you, slow clap indeed, my friend. In a nutshell: some crafty awesomeness. Get on board.

Where: ZK/U, Siemensstrasse 27, 10551

When: May 15, noon-8 p.m.

Stand-Up Saturdays

via Facebook

We all love to LOL and ROFL and LMAO, but do we really like to laugh? IRL? According to the Comedy Cafe’s successful Kickstarter campaign, the answer is yes. Berlin now has its first “alternative comedy stage,” and by alternative they mean badass and weird. How weird, you ask? Think Disney-musical-parodies-explaining-German-history sort of weird. Germans, take note: You vill be ze butt of ze jokes. Sorry, they’re better than that. Honest.

Where: Roseggerstrasse 17 / Weserstrasse, 12059
When: May 28, 8 p.m.

Erwin Wurm at Berlinische Galerie

Photo by Amin Akhtar via Facebook

Oddball thought-provoking humor in sculpture form  that’s what you get at Erwin Wurm’s new exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie. His “one-minute sculptures” invite visitors to get involved and create living sculptures by way of jamming their heads into various shapes and designs. Hilarity ensues, naturally. And then there’s his pièce de résistanceNarrow House: Erwin’s childhood home exactly reconstructed, except for it being only one meter wide. We’ll give you a clue: It has to do with provincial upbringings and personal freedom.

Where: Alte Jakobstrasse 124-128, 10969
When: Through Aug. 22
